I recall there was a mod which included some other characters (bad guys and hostages) from the game, which allowed me to select those characters from the Scenario Editor character list.
Does anyone know where I can get that mod? Or, does anyone know what game files I'd need to modify?

Your talking about the Stockholm Syndrome from furrycat.

Here is his website..

I don't think we have that mod for download, I will review the downloads and add all his mods on our downloads section.

Cheers!

Regretfully, that wasn't the mod I was looking for. I was referring to a mod where the other characters present in the original game became available for the character list in the Scenario Editor (hostage Donna Briggs from DBN, for instance). Is it possible to modify a characters file and make it available to the Scenario Editor?

You can modify the SCC scenario file to put any character you want, and also add more than the defaiult 30. The key is: following the abreviated names to identify the character you want.

I will look into modifying the scenario editor to allow for more choices.

The characters available in the Scenario Editor are found at SWAT3/ data/ characters. If I wanted to include (for example) the aforementioned Donna Briggs, I'd have to include her relevant info, in the format shown in the file. How would I go about making the two character pics, like the ones present in the SWAT3/ ScenShell/ Chars file? Any other info I'd need to include, to make the character selectable in Scenario Editor?

The process is straight foward.

1. Add name entry to C:\Sierra\SWAT3\ScenShell\data\characters.dat

sample entry:
Sample_Char    9    4    3    4    0    BF1_SAM_Char        BF1        Sample Character

Check out the char.html in the FAQ pages to know more about what each column means.

2. Create ui images and place them into the C:\Sierra\SWAT3\ScenShell\Chars\ folder

Examples: from above entry to .dat file.

BF1_SAM_CHAR_UI.bmp (size in pixels 145 X 245)
BF1_SAM_CHAR_UI_S.bmp (size in pixels 51 X 80)

Alternatively you could take screenshots, crop and resize to the above sizes to use as your UI images

thats it!, Launch the Scenario editor and you now should be able to add your new character into your map.

Done this many times to save having to edit the scc file by hand to test out new characters.

Let me

I understand Step 1, but regarding Step 2, where do I need to go in the SWATDATA (or any other) file to retrieve the material for the UI pics? Would I need to use WorldCraft to make the characters for the pics?

The UI images for the characters not on the Scenario Editors list do not exist, they will have to be created.

Let me know which characters you want images for and I will Import models and take screenshots in Maya for you to use.

Here is a sample of what the images I can create will look like.

Here is what you can create with the image, in PAINT of all programs. LOL

Let me know. Unfortunately I cannot release the Import plugins for Maya, so I will have to take screenies for you.

Another thing you can try is to just create images with names on it, here are the ui templates.

Thank you very, very much for the Donna Briggs pics and the templates. I was able to test her in a couple of scenarios, and she functioned well.
I was able to identify the following characters missing from the Scenario Editor, for which I would be grateful to have selection screen pics. The names included in the list are the ones I was able to identify:

BF1_PAT_HAR
BG3_JON_ELL
BG3_RIC_DOG Rick "Dog" Peters
FH1_ANG_CUM Angel Cummings
FH1_FEM_DIG3
FH1_JUL_KIN Julia King
FH1_LOR_ABB Lori Abbot
FH2_CAR_SHI
FH2_FEM_DIG2
FH2_GWE_DAV Gwen Davies
KID_EMI_FOR Emily Foreman
KID_JAC_FOR Jack Foreman
MH_DIG_001
MH_DIG_002
MH_DIG_003
MH_DIG_005
MH_DIG_006
MH1_PRE_IGO Russian President Igor Stomas
MH1_SAL_BEL
MH1_STA_JAM
MH1_VAN_THA
MH2_HOM_MAN Homeless Man

If it is possible to post the images for one character at a time (as you complete them), instead of all characters' images at once, that would be most ideal. I thank you in advance, and I appreciate your patient assistance in this matter.

I can post the screenshots but creating the UI images will take some time.

I just remembered you can pull the character data from the missions they are in, or in the Swatdata.res characters.dat file, so you can have the exact attributes for each character.
