I know there are times and places when dynamic mode is encouraged, if not required, but I prefer to go slow and steady in stealth mode. That being said, I am a big advocate of keeping the finger on the trigger at all times but rarely firing. Gas and the compliance call usually get the job done.
Sometimes the suspect likes to run throughout the building, though, and that is a tough call. If i felt that the suspect would at any time harm a civilian I would take out his legs before I let him run away but since in the game they never shoot the civilians I just let him run and gas him when possible.
Also, there are the cases when there is a gas-masked suspect. If the mirror catches him before entry I will flash in hopes that he drops the weapon and/or complies. If he drops, we enter, and then he picks it up I am always ready to fire. I try to pick the weapon up before he can though.
Finally, there are time when the suspect shoots at you. If you have great cover and are able to gas or bang I prefer that but, for example, when I was Blue 2 covering a back hallway as the Red's and Ele took an alternative entry and a gun-wielding suspect opened up a door and started shooting at me where I had no cover and no back-up, I immediately took out the legs. I had no time to gas, flash, or run for that matter.
I play the game to the games specs. This is probably not the real order of operation for swat but that example got us a 100 leardership rating for the element leader and that is what I am for. I am sure there are more exceptions requiring the firing at suspects but for most cases I don't shoot.
P.S. For a better picture of my example, I was playing Hotel Carlyle and covering the top floor hallway between the elevator room and outside while the rest of my team proceeded down stairs to clear the basement first. I was posted in the elevator room with the door open, leaning right and just staring down the hallway as a suspect opened up the door to the bathroom, came out, and started firing. I P90'ed his legs with around 10 shots and he was down but not dead. It is weird that this was nearly 10 years ago but I remember it vividly. Swat 3 was a big part of my life. :D
It's good to see you back into Swat 3, we definitely have to get some games in. Let me know when is best for you, and I will post that date and time on the front Page news.
Depends on the mission, If it's a Rapid deployment I choose an M4 with 50/50 lethal and non-lethal. If it's A hostage Rescue i either use a suppressed MP5 or a Shotgun with Beanbags, depending on the venue.
Well I always try to act like a real SWAT officer or at least like they should act so killing anybody is the last thing I do. I use a lot of gas and try to arrest or, if I have no other choice, take them down but not get killed. I think that killing everybody around is hell of a fun but also it is a way easier and "being bossy" like sbd here mentioned by makin' your team do everything is just pathetic and you have no idea what you're missing. I mean - why the hell do you play the game then?
I do my best to make sure not only do I and the hostages get out alive, but so do the suspects. I constantly make use of rubber bullets and CS gas. In reality, the best SWAT operations are when no bullets are fired. Trust me, there's been many times where I played SWAT missions and not a single bullet was fired.
I mean, I HAVE shot suspects before (I still haven't forgotten how to do the deadly double-tap) but I try for minimal loss as much as possible. Best way to do that, rubber bullets and tear gas. Modern war games have become way too Hollywood, I like SWAT 3 because it can be set up for you to just arrest everybody instead of kill everybody.
