Where did you get your italian version so I can expidite a fully compatible Italian to English version compatible patch? That is something I have been trying to do with the German Verson.
More research in the Language versions has to be done in order to fully make them compatible with each other.
All Language versions of Swat 3 TGOTY Version 2.1 are compatible because I have seen it and I have played with soo many different people from all over the world in the past 7 years.
Its not the Languages that are not cross compatible, it's the version of the Game and there is only one reason for this.
Different file hosting sites host different versions of the game. Sometimes not correctly patched to 2.1 even though the game itself says 2.1 in the Options menu. If you are lucky, your Language version of the patched 2.1 game will be compatible.
Depending on where you got your game, and if was correclty patched to 2.1
There are several ways around this language barrier, and they have their advantages and disadvantages.
Option 1. One way around this is to have the English version of the Game(the one hosted here) and use the Italian Sounds.res. The only disadvantage is that all text will be in english but the sound played will be in Italian.
1. Install game from site. 2. Make sure it is working, It launches, Last Resort, mods, etc. 3. transfer over the Italian Sound.res to your Swat 3 folder (this file is sometimes called Swatdata2.res so you will have to rename it and overwrite the English Sound.res)
Option 2. Another way around this is to have 2 versions of the game installed in the same Swat 3 folder. What seperates these two versions of the game is the swatdata.res file.
1. Install the game on this site. 2. Rename the Swatdata.res file to En_Swatdata.res 3. Transfer over from Itallian version or German version of the Swatdata1.res to your swat 3 folder and rename it to Italian_Swatdata.res
To play English version simply edit the name of the Eng_Swatdata.res to Swatdata.res. To Change to italian version, rename the english Swatdata.res to Eng_Swatdata.res and Rename you Italian_Swatdata.res to Swatdata.res. The only disadvantage you will have is that the game is either fully english playing with other english versions, or Italian playing with other Italian Versions.
